15 - Antiga Farmácia Caridade (Old Charity Pharmacy)

Bento Gonçalves street, 117 (Antiga Rua Clara), corner to Comendador Freitas street.

Built circa 1831, the pharmacy building used to function as storage space for Casa de Comercio Moreira Fabião. By order of Comendador Moreira Fabião, the building was later divided and adapted as a residential space for his daughter Anacleta and her husband João de Deus Valente. João de Deus was a pharmacist. He started his business, which was named Charity Pharmacy, where every patient was treated regardless of theis ability to make payments.

The building’s ground floor corner has hip roof and tiles cloak-and-channel, as well as galbo and eaves on cyma simple. The structure is marked at the ends by wedges and the gaps with smooth frames. There are frames aligned in the superior part and two windows with sheets of open, flat glass and shutters.

The building is protected by the State Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAE) since 1986.
